This may surprise you: DC is one of the few jurisdictions in the continental US that has no dedicated mechanism for the funding of domestic violence services. But something's got to change when there are more than 30,000 domestic violence-related crime calls to the police in a given year and only 96 designated emergency shelter beds for battered women and their children. Luckily, DCCADV is inciting change. Its mission: build a community where domestic violence is replaced with human dignity. Eleven member organizations provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and financial assistance to victims seeking legal protection and DCCADV works to dispel myths about domestic violence via teach-ins and community education. Other initiatives include a cell phone drive that has recycled over 5,000 phones for emergency use, and a holiday gift drive that has provided gifts to hundreds of survivors and their children since 2005. Since 2004, the Coalition has trained more than 3,800 police officers in domestic violence response and prevention. Your inspired donation means continued help for DC's vulnerable survivors.
