Saturday, October 16: 8:00 AM — Macy’s Shop for a Cause (Carpenter’s Shelter): buy a $5 ticket to enjoy some cool all-day sales at Macy’s and 100% of ticket sales will benefit Carpenter’s Shelter.

9:30 AM-3:30 PM — Tutor Training (Literacy Council of Northern Virginia): become a volunteer tutor and make a major difference in the life of an area adult. Click here to fill out a sign-up form.

10:00 AM-3:00 PM — Fall Frenzy (DC SCORES): literally kick off the DC SCORES fall soccer season with great games and activities at Kelly Miller Middle School in NE.

6:00 PM-midnight — Benefit Gala (Arlington Free Clinic): support AFC at a black-tie dinner and dance in Tyson’s Corner. You can still nab a ticket right here!

8:00 PM — Inside Out (Joy of Motion): celebrate the 34th anniversary with performances by Resident Arts Partners, Youth Companies, DCypher Dance, and a surprise guest.

Sunday, October 17

8:00 AM-noon — Acumen Solutions’ The Race for a Cause 8K (Greenbrier Learning Center and For Love of Children): run a tiny bit under 5 miles or walk 1 mile and benefit 12 area non-profits. Not in town? You can still register and help out GLC and FLOC!

8:00 AM-3:00 PM — 3rd Annual Potomac River Jam (Potomac Conservatory): swing by River Center at Lock 8 for acoustic music, bird walks and nature walks, and canoe rides, as well as face-painting and pumpkin carving for kids. All events are free!

5:00 PM — Symphony Dance (Capital City Symphony): spend an evening at the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street NE and experience dance through music from Liszt’s “Dance of Death” to the dead dancing on Bald Mountain to Beethoven’s 7th.
