- Volunteer Opportunities / Responsibilities: We primarily use volunteers for our summer Festival. Our Next summer Festival is July 10 to 27, 2014. Volunteer recruitment will begin in April.
PRE-FESTIVAL PRODUCTION WORK: (June 1-July 9, 2014) As we get the Festival ready to open, we need volunteers during the day and early evening to assist with a variety of production tasks including painting, carpentry, cleaning, and general space set up. If you pick up one of these shifts, itís recommended you wear clothing you can get dirty or paint on and bring a water bottle with you. Much of this work will be outside Ė but we can find indoor work for those too hot days or for people who canít be out in the sun. Close-toed shoes are a requirement (no sandals or open backed shoes).
BOX OFFICE ATTENDANTS: (July 10-27, 2014 )This is the main role volunteers will play during the Festival. Attendants will check in at Fort Fringe for all Box Office shifts, and then proceed to the assigned venue to sell tickets on-site for a specific performance. You must be comfortable counting cash, providing customer service, and working in a fast-paced environment. We will use iPads for all ticket sales at the Baldacchino Gypsy Tent, Shop, Bedroom and Redrum venues. If you feel comfortable using an iPad, please let us know so we can train you for this task!
BALDACCHINO GYPSY TENT BAR VOLUNTEERS: (July 10-27, 2014) We have affordable drinks to hydrate Festival patrons and a fantastic tapas food menu. In addition to the staff working behind the bar, we will need some volunteers to help with prep work in the kitchen, keeping the bar area clean and delivering food to guests from the kitchen area. The hours of the bar are Tuesday to Friday, 5pm to 2am and Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 2am. Youíll be working with a team of kitchen, bar, and serving staff as well as another volunteer in 3-hour shifts.
TRAINING FACTORY DISCUSSION VOLUNTEERS: (June and July 2014) Training Factory discussions, classes and workshops happen on the weeks leading up to and Monday nights during the summer Festival at various DC Public Libraries and Fort Fringe Volunteers may be asked to do an array of activities, such as checking attendance at the door, moving furniture, or setting up AV equipment. Additionally, we will be expanded our discussion and workshops into June.
OPENING NIGHT AND WRAP PARTY VOLUNTEERS: (July 10 and 27, 2014 This job consists of helping with the Opening Night and Wrap parties. Volunteers will assist with various tasks, mainly crowd control and customer service. The Opening Night party will require a lot of set-up and cleanup, but it will be a whole lot of fun and you will be an intrinsic part of the festivities. The Opening Night party is on July 10th and the Wrap Party is on July 27th. Volunteers must be 21 or over to work either of these events.
