General Information

  • Volunteer Opportunities / Responsibilities: At City Year, we realize that a full-time volunteer commitment is not possible for everyone. The “City Year For A Day” (CYFAD) program aspires to make community service opportunities more accessible to all individuals. These one-day events engage local residents with high school and college students, community organizations, corporate employees, and other volunteers to serve together on projects that make a transformational, inspirational, and sustainable difference in the DC community.

A typical CYFAD involves 50-200 people, and takes place at a DC public school, recreation center, homeless shelter, or local park. Examples of service activities include revitalizing playgrounds, painting murals, reclaiming green spaces, planting community gardens, and renovating and painting housing units, classrooms, hallways and libraries.
