A unique charter school for children ages 3 to 5th grade, Latin American Montessori Bilingual creates a nurturing, empowering environment both for non-native-English speakers (who might elsewhere be penalized for their lack of fluency) and English-dominant ones (who might otherwise not benefit from learning a new language). Regardless of their backgrounds, students graduate from LAMB’s dual immersion program – which goes through 5th grade – fluent in English and Spanish. Under the close guidance of two Montessori teachers per class, students learn by making discoveries on their own and cultivating concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning. And when a student enrolls in LAMB, the family does too: parents created the library program, started the PTO, help in the classroom, and volunteer at LAMB's two sites (on Missouri Avenue NW and Perry Street NE). LAMB also offers an after-school tutoring program, music and art classes, monthly ceremonies where students can receive “peace ambassador” awards, and an Extended Learning Day Program. LAMB’s Montessori dual language immersion classroom is a child-sized world. Isn't learning a wonder?
