In the age of multiplexes, this historic, meticulously restored, single-screen theatre shines as a cultural gem and social hub in the heart of Greenbelt, Maryland. Old Greenbelt Theatre shows first-run arthouse films 365 days a year (often featuring guest speakers for Q&A), but its true distinction comes in its commitment to pro- viding high-quality, low-cost programming that benefits the wider community. Young audiences enjoy a free program (for children ages 0-5) that includes books on screen, a movie, and a craft. Monday matinees show classic movies in a safe, enriching environment for seniors; Science on Screen features free, accessible science education films; and each Sunday afternoon includes an open-caption screening for deaf patrons. Last year, thanks to these programs, more than 9,800 moviegoers attended for free – and experienced the magic of the movies. Your philanthropy makes it happen.
