Part of the global Special Olympics movement, SODC uses the transformative power of sport to unleash the human spirit. Health, education, and community building are also on agenda, and together they change the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, addressing the injustice, isolation, intolerance, and inactivity they face. Twelve sports are offered year-round, among them basketball, bowling, golf, soccer, skating, tennis, track, and volleyball – all culminating in three championships: the fall, winter, and summer games. In addition, medical screenings and inclusion programs mean healthier lives and the development of valuable skills for success in school and self-advocacy in life. In 2018 a team of twenty athletes traveled to Seattle, Washington to compete in the National games against athletes from all 50 states. Everything, including travel to USA and World Games, is provided free of charge – with your help, please.
