General Information

  • Volunteer Opportunities / Responsibilities: Pro bono legal support--MAIP's Screening Committee consists of more than 85 pro bono attorneys, primarily from DC law firms, who review potentially meritorious innocence claims. Other pro bono lawyers help with specialized projects like amicus briefs or policy research.

Law Students--MAIP benefits tremendously from the time and effort of law students from our partnership with George Washington Law School as well as other law schools in the area and across the country. We typically have 5-10 part-time interns/externs each semester, and another 8-10 in the summer (full-time for 10-12 weeks), as well as an average of 15-20 students each semester who focus on screening cases.

Interns--MAIP seeks interns in the following areas: development, communications/marketing, design, and social work. Interns must be seeking graduate degrees in these field, or be current/retired professionals in these fields.

Office volunteers--MAIP has some need of volunteers to help with administrative tasks, data entry, mailings, and other duties.
