The numbers are impressive: 22,893 volunteers, 82,891 hours, and 900 local nonprofits. These reflect the reach of Volunteer Fairfax, the region's central resource for community engagement. Now celebrating 40 years of service, it mobilizes citizens, corporations, and local governments to meet the community's most essential needs by bringing person-power to local nonprofits. At any given time, as many as 400 volunteer openings are active in the 24-hour database. So Volunteer Fairfax works to broadcast opportunities, and to make clear that anyone can serve: kids and parents unite for hands-on service activities through Give Together (held on Martin Luther King, Jr Day); adults 55 and older apply their years of experience through RSVP Northern Virginia; BusinessLink connects with area businesses to offer consulting and employee service events; and the annual VolunteerFest engages some 800 volunteers at 35 sites in a single day. A recognized leader in emergency response, Volunteer Fairfax also stands ready to deploy volunteers corps to solve problems where and when they emerge. Won’t you join the team?
