General Information

  • Volunteer Opportunities / Responsibilities: Class Volunteers - ArtStream is searching for high school and adult volunteers to join our inclusive theatre classes! Inclusive Theatre Classses are offered for adult actors with intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Volunteers will learn acting and communication skills alongside. No acting experience necessary - we just want you to be the best participant you can be! No experience working with adults with disabilities is required either.

On-Stage Mentors - Inclusive Theatre Companies are scripted acting companies featuring adults with intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities and adults on the Autism Spectrum The Companies are directed by trained theatre professionals. An original script is developed during the rehearsal process through improvisation techniques.

Mentors are the unsung heroes of these productions. They keep the dialogue flowing and the energy up. They act as a safety net to help keep our actors on task during rehearsals and highly confident onstage. Mentors are sometimes paired with actors with special needs (an arm for a woman who is visually impaired to hold on to) or actors with heavy onstage responsibilities (acting as a sounding board for the main character, repeating important lines so the audience understands). Mentors are always their own characters onstage and take on their own responsibilities backstage as well. No prior experience with the disabled community is required. This volunteer opportunity is a unique combination of improvisation, new play development, acting and disabilities counseling.

Backstage Tech Volunteers - ArtStream needs volunteers interested in technical theatre to help run the technical aspects of our Inclusive shows. Specific needs will be posted as they arise.

Front of House Volunteers - ArtStream parents and friends are welcome to volunteer to help with Front of House responsibilities for the performances. Responsibilities include box office, concessions and merchandise.
