Giving Tuesday 2016: Change A Child's Life

Who was your favorite coach, teacher, or childhood mentor? Remember how s/he inspired you, challenged you to be your best, supported you? Can you imagine how your life would be if you'd never met them?

Kids living in DC's most impoverished neighborhoods often don't have access to coaches and mentors like the one so important to you. That's where you come in.

You can give deserving DC kids in-need the same life-changing relationship that mattered so much to you simply by donating to DC SCORES.

DC SCORES goes where kids in need are and creates neighborhood teams that give kids the confidence and skills to succeed on the playing field, in the classroom, and in life.

All programming is FREE to our kids. The core of those teams (which play soccer together, write and perform original poetry together, and do service projects together) are the coaches. We recruit our coaches from the schools and rec centers our kids already attend – not strangers, but members of their community. That is why our coaches connect so well with our kids. We frequently hear “My coach is another part of my family, my big brother.” Our dedicated coaches feel the same way, staying with DC SCORES an average of 5-10 years. This is why 95% of our 2,200 kids feel their coaches care about them and feel comfortable talking about their problems with their coaches.

Don't want to take our word for it? Let Edgar and his coach Popsie show you how one caring coach can change a child's life:
