The goal? Eliminate hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education, and advocacy. Recovering food from local grocery stores, farmers, and farmers markets, Manna is the largest food rescue program in the County. It serves more than 3,600 families from multiple sites, provides food county-wide to partners such as emergency shelters, group homes, food pantries, and soup kitchens (at no charge), and delivers food to home-bound seniors and people with disabilities. Its Smart Sacks program provides bags full of kid-friendly food that reach 2,800 elementary school children every Friday so that children donít go hungry during the weekends. With hunger an ongoing and persistent problem, Manna has risen to the challenge, distributing over 3 million pounds of food to over 28,500 individuals last year Ė because no one should begin the day on an empty stomach.
