For over a half century, Community Reach has served Montgomery County’s most vulnerable residents, constantly adapting as needs evolve. Today, five distinct programs form a network of holistic care. A health clinic provides quality healthcare and health education to medically underserved adults. During a financial crisis, any client can walk down the hall to the financial assistance program to get help with prescription costs, prevent utility shut-offs or eviction, and receive referrals to other social services. A language outreach program brings English literacy and citizenship classes to adults, along with childcare and tutoring for their children. Elderly and disabled clients receive weekly in-home care and assistance with home repairs, while a housing program provides transitional shelter for homeless men and women, along with case management and life skills development. True to its name, this place embodies community – and it welcomes new friends.

COVID-19 Update: Language and citizenship classes for adult learners have continued online as has tutoring for children. Language exposure for smaller children makes sure they don’t fall farther behind their peers. Face-to-face medical appointments continue (Including the treatment of COVID-19) and tele-health has been added as another tool. The Senior Reach Program continues to provide the assistance that low-income seniors need to age in place; volunteer callers provide the human connection seniors need. The REAP program is seeing an increase in calls for assistance with rent, utilities, and prescriptions – and CRMC is meeting needs to the limit of its capacity.
