A cultural anchor of Montgomery County, the National Philharmonic offers professional, affordable choral and orchestral performances and educational programs for people of all ages. Each year, 16,000 individuals attend the Philharmonic’s outstanding orchestral and choral concerts at its home venue, the world-class Music Center at Strathmore. Student engagement begins with hands-on music instruction for all second graders in Montgomery County Public Schools, and continues through middle and high school with opportunities to perform in youth ensembles and master classes, summer string and choral institutes, and free admission to all Strathmore performances (a program aptly named All Kids, All Free, All the Time). Adult audiences can subscribe to affordable daytime or evening performances (with free parking or easy Metro access), attend free pre-concert lectures, and observe master classes with guest artists. Your support brings the joy and beauty of music to thousands.
COVID-19 Update:
NP staff identified a technology-based solution to deliver the 2020-21 concert season virtually, allowing patrons to be entertained, engaged, and safe while continuing to enjoy the many experiences NP has to offer. It also employs musicians in an approved and safe environment, using all social distancing procedures and appropriate PPE. Musicians performed over 35 "Musical Notes" and a virtual performance of Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man," reached over 65,000 views. NP's online educational series explores artists such as Maurice Ravel, Undine Smith Moore and John Paul Corigliano who were affected by historical events and used the arts to reflect the times. Virtual content will continue along with in-person performances once restrictions are lifted.
