Fighting for Survivors: Litigating Civil Protection Orders

DC Volunteer Lawyers Project

This training will prepare you to represent domestic violence victims in court and help them and their children find immediate safety from abuse. Volunteers gain supervised litigation experience in a short time - on average, each case lasts just 8-12 days. Topics include: dynamics of domestic violence, the Intra-Family Offenses Act, interviewing clients, obtaining evidence, and handling contested hearings.
