The Reading Connection (1200 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA)

On Friday from 10:00-11:30 AM, employees of The Boeing Company’s northern VA offices and the staff and partners of The Reading Connection will be stuffing 420 backpacks for children to take back to school. Backpacks and all materials have been donated by Boeing employees.

Capitol Hil Arts Workshop (545 7th Street SE)

Join Jake and Danarae Stevens for a free tango practica on Friday from 6:30-9:00 PM at CHAW. Tango dancers of all levels have an opportunity to practice, collaborate, and learn in a collective space. Free and open to all!

Potomac Conservancy (River Center at Lock 8, 7906 Riverside Drive, Cabin John, MD)

Quite a lot happening this weekend! On Sunday from 2:00-4:00 PM, help clean up and beautify the land and water surrounding Lock 8, and along miles 8 and 9 of the C&O Canal towpath. Starting at 4:00 PM, enjoy an interactive experience of storytelling and pictures while listening to the tunes of Reed Martin’s banjo on the steps of the River Center; or come to an art exhibit at the lockhouse, featuring the work of local artists Adnan Alsaffar, Hushang Tohildoo, Nan Fuhrman, and Mimi Betz.

District of Columbia Arts Center (2438 18th Street NW)

Kicking off on Sunday at 3:00 PM, “A Midsummer’s Daydream Variety Show” is a showcase of upcoming acts in the DC metropolitan area, including dancers, singers, flamenco guitarists, an experimental rock band and more, ranging from extablished acts to emerging performers.

Staples is partnering with DoSomething.org to collect school supplies for Neediest Kids. When you are back-to-school shopping, please drop some new school supplies in the Staples for Students collection box in the store. You can also make a cash donation to the Staples for Students project.
