Around Town: November 6-7

Welcome to November, Greater Washington! Who doesn’t like umbrella-reversing wind and freezing rain? Lucky for you, our non-profits offer some wonderfully entertaining ways to escape the cold. A day in a beautiful gallery or a night at the theatre are great ways to start the month:

Saturday, November 6

10:00 AM — Heart of L’Arche Tour (L’Arche of Greater Washington DC): Take a one-hour tour, meet core people and board members, and hear from a family whose life has been touched by L’Arche. Get to the heart of it all!

3:00 PM — The Best Haunted House Ever (Encore Stage & Studio): Catch an afternoon performance of this hair-raising tale at The Children’s Theatre. Think deliciously scary, but not too scary. Performances run through November 7. Full schedule here and tickets right here.

5:00 PM — All-Media Juried Art Exhibit (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop): Opening today! Be the first to see the Capitol Hill Art League’s mixed media show of original work. The juror for the exhibit is Gene Weingarten, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. The show runs through December 8 and gallery hours are right here.

6:30 PM — Team Up (Perry School Community Services Center): Where do fun and philanthropy meet? That would be at an evening downtown of cocktails, dinner, games, and silent auction in support of the Perry School. Click here for more information on ticket purchases.

8:00 PM — Maida Withers Dance Construction Company (Dance Place): Catch the regional premiere of the intense, politically-charged “Fare Well — The End of the World As We Know It OR Dancing Your Way to Paradise.” Watch a preview and nab your tickets right here.

8:00 PM — House of Gold (Woolly Mammoth Theater Company): Fearless playwright Gregory S. Moss conducts a darkly funny inquest into the fate of a certain six-year-old beauty queen. Head over to Woolly for this funhouse ride into the American psyche. Tickets are a click away.

Sunday, November 7

1:00 PM — Virtuosi (American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras): Celebrate the first concert of the season and the beauty of the clarinet, through both the contemporary Fantasia for Clarinet and Orchestra and Rhapsody for Clarinet by Claude Debussy. Tickets and full schedule are just here.
