Around Town: January 29-30

Good snowy morning, Washington!

That was an exciting bit of weather. But according to our friends at WUSA9, we are looking at a relatively warmer weekend. So do check out these great performances at our non-profits!

District of Columbia Arts Center

Last chance! A Cre@tion Story for Naomi, Bright Alchemy Theatre’s tale of a teenager’s search for direction and purpose in the realms of cyberspace, closes this weekend! So head to DCAC tonight or Saturday at 7:30 PM. Stay until 10:00 PM, you can catch Shawn Mikael’s Theater — a sketch comedy featuring DC’s established and newer comic talents.

Dance Place

Through dance, video, text, and live music, “Speechless” explores the struggle of parents of special needs kids, striving to understand their silent children in a noisy world. Alight Dance Theatre brings their compelling work to Dance Place on Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 4:00 PM.

Bowen McCauley Dance

Enjoy a full evening of energetic performances by BMDC’s company, choreographed by Artistic Director Lucy Bowen McCauley, in “Winterfest” at 8:00 PM on Saturday.

American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra

Experience some Movie Magic at 3:00 PM at the George Mason University Center for the Arts on Sunday: the program features themes from Hitchcock’s Vertigo and The Man Who Knew Too Much, as well as music from El Cid and Henry the V. Tickets available online or at the door!

Washington Revels

Looking for a celebratory, musical end to your weekend? Raise a glass at McGinty’s Public House in Silver Spring on Sunday from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Revels’ Pub Sing! All performances are sing-along style and you can request to lead a number (email pubsing@revelsdc.org). Seating is limited, so grab your ticket in advance!

As always, check out Catalogue Happenings for extra details and events listings all week long.
