Around Town: April 9-10

TGIF! So where are you in the mood to go this weekend?

Into the outdoors …

You actually have two great opportunities to beautify our nearby rivers: Potomac Conservancy hosts the 23rd Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup, organized by the Alice Ferguson Foundation, on Saturday at 9:00 AM in Cabin John. Up in Poolesville, Potomac Riverkeeper will hold Riley’s Lock Cleanup, also at 9:00 AM on Saturday.

And for the speed demons among you, the interactive Art & Go Seek Scaveger Hunt begins at CHAW at 8:30 AM on Saturday; teams of two to six people will race around the neighborhood in search of answers to questions about art, history, and notorious people. Sign up here! Similarly, Cakes for Cause‘s Sweetest Race in Town 5K begins at 8:00 AM on Sunday in downtown Frederick, MD. There will be cupcakes at the finish — enough said.

To the theatre …

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company continues its wildly successful run of The Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs on Saturday at 3:00 PM & 8:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM. Tickets are going fast, so do grab yours. And over at DCAC, Stop Child Sexual Abuse presents To Kill a Kelpie on Saturday at 4:00 PM and April 11 at 7:30 PM. (Saturday is already sold out!)

To the dance floor

Dance Place welcomes Headlong Dance Theater on Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 7:00 PM; in “More,” Headlong imagines a dance of our bodies after our bodies have gone away. And at Joy of Motion in Friendship Heights at 8;00 PM on Saturday, you can catch the high-energy … Tappenstance in Concert!

To dine out …

You are doubly in luck! The Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services Gala is this coming Saturday at 6:00 PM at the Crowne Plaza in Old Town Alexandria: cocktails, dinners, and a live band! More info right this way! And staring on Sunday at 11:00 AM, you can “Dine Out For Literacy” on behalf of the Literacy Council of Montgomery County, at any of four Lebanese Taverna locations! It’s a super good deal, so check it out right here.

Also! To follow up on yesterday’s “7 Questions” with Sonia Quinonez, SCAN of Northern Virginia & Books-A-Million in McLean are hosting a Pinwheel Celebration on Sunday from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM – and 10% of all proceeds will go to SCAN’s child abuse prevention programs.
